Beautiful Dame'art

1. Tell us a little about yourself, background, etc.

My names are Damilola Olusegun, popularly known as Dame'art. I'm the first of three children in my family. I hail from Ondo state. My Nursery and Primary education were at cornerstone Kiddies College and Omolola Nursery and Primary School. I had my secondary education at Tompost College and graduated from Remo Secondary School. Presently I'm in my second year of study at the great Olabisi Onabanjo University. All of these schools are situated in Ogun state.

2. What course are you studying in school, and how have you been merging drawing and school works?

I'm studying microbiology. It may not sound easy merging my studies and love for art together, but I'll cheekily say it's easy because I create time for both. There's time to draw and another time to read school works.

3. Since when did you discover that you had a creative arts talent/when did you start drawing?

I've been drawing since I was a child, from 6 years old to be precise.

4. Define your style of creative arts, like what do you like to draw? What tools do you use to draw?

I can draw anything, but I enjoy drawing mainly human pictures and 3D images. I draw with charcoal pencils, ink pen and pencils ranging from 3b to 8b, though I upgrade them.

5. I'm pretty sure your relatives have recognized your talent. How are they accepting it? And how are your school colleagues reacting to your drawings?

My parent was the first to recognize my talent and they've always supported me, especially my dad (though he's late, I lost him recently *sad face*). My dad was my backbone, and that's the reason I still feel sober about his sudden death. At first, it affected me a lot, but I had to hold myself together. My other relatives recently recognized my capabilities, and it left them shocked.  Also, my colleagues are overwhelmed by my talent, and they've all been supporting.

6. What are your other hobbies aside from drawing?

My other hobbies are writing and reading.

7. What inspires and motivate you to draw, where do you gather your strength from?

My dad is my inspiration. Anytime I remember him, the strength comes.

8. You are getting so many appraisals on social media, how are you coping with the buzz? Are you enjoying it?

Seriously, I have been getting a lot of calls and messages, and it’s not been easy. It's a big issue which I’m struggling with, but I have to admit I enjoy it too.

9. Where do you see yourself in the nearest future with these drawings?

I see myself in the highest place among great artist. I see myself making my parent and everyone proud.

10. Are you in a love relationship? If yes, does your boyfriend support your drawings? If no, are you looking? LOL, you never know who's reading, don't be shy, spill it out.

*Laughs*. It's classified.

11. Do you have a role model/mentor? Which creative artists inspire you?

I have a mentor, though he's not an artist. A lot of other artists inspire me.

12. Any advice to others who have talents different from what they pursuing just like you?

Yes, my advice goes to everyone, most especially ladies like myself. Don't be scared to explore that thing living inside of you. You don't know where it can get you to. Truly, people will mock and discourage you at first, but later when you are successful, they will be the ones to broadcast your good works. Not until your talent has been converted into a skill, the reward might not be at its peak. You're going somewhere, but without taking a bold step, you're going nowhere.

These are great words of advice. Thanks for granting us this interview. We are happy to have you here and we hope we can reach you again sooner or later in the future. We wish you well Dame’art. Thanks.
