Niger Delta Militants Kills 5 Policemen & 2 Soldiers in Ikorodu, Lagos

According to residents, about 25 Niger Delta militants (locals called them Ijaw boys) who are well known to carry out kidnappings, pipeline vandalism, and murders around the Ikorodu riverine areas invaded Isawo, Agric-Owutu area of Ikorodu, Lagos state. They came into the area fully armed, started robbing households off their goods, snatching all their phones, money, decoders etc. Having locked up the main security person, a resident alerted the Police.

The Police came in a van with full-blown siren. The five policemen in the van were brutally ambushed. Soldiers manning strategic areas within the environs came in, but their captain and another soldier were murdered. The other soldiers fought the militants heavily, shooting sporadically. There were casualties on all sides.

The militants killed the man who alerted Police. Took seven Landlords as hostages and wanted to escape. Soldiers sent five of the boys to quick death, Landlords were rescued, others got away. Security person vanished, according to the locals report.

This insecurity in Ikorodu is getting out of hand.

The Zone 2 Police spokesperson, Dolapo Badmos, confirmed the attack in a text message to Linda Ikeji's blog. See the content of the message after the cut.
"The zone received the report of the encounter between military/police and the kidnappers at the Isawo area. There were reports of casualties on both sides of the encounter. The AIG Zone 2 has put well coordinated intelligence team within the area and activated the anti-kidnapping section of the zone to work hand-in-hand with Lagos state to forestall a reorcurrence and ensure the arrest of fleeing hoodlums".
