Are you aware that some mischievous fruits sellers use a chemical called Calcium Carbide to ripen their fruits so that they can sell it quicker? Do you know fruits ripened with this carbide poses a lot of danger to the body?

The body responsible for regulating foods and drug in Nigeria, National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC), has advised the general public to shun consumption of fruits ripened with calcium carbide.

Last Monday in Abuja, the agency gave the warning in a statement signed by its management, saying that dangerous effects of carbide-ripened fruits include cancer and other serious illnesses.

Hot Tea Can Cause Esophageal Cancer in Smokers And Drinkers

Esophageal cancer is the eighth most common cancer in the world and is often fatal, killing approximately 400,000 people every year, according to the International Agency for Research on Cancer. It is usually caused by repeated injury to the esophagus due to smoke, alcohol, acid reflux and - maybe - hot liquids. A new study followed 500,000 people in China for almost 10 years.
According to the research published in the Annals of Internal Medicine, if you smoke cigarettes or drink alcohol daily, you may want to consider letting your tea cool before drinking it. Drinking tea while it's very hot could increase your risk of esophageal cancer.
In the study,  drinking "hot" or "burning hot" tea was associated with a two- to fivefold increase in esophageal cancer, but only in people who also smoked or drank alcohol.
